Money Saving/Recipe tip

Postby Kim C » Tue Jan 19, 2010 3:53 pm

I don't know if anyone else does this but today is our "left overs" day. We had a ton of beef, lamb and pork left over from different meals. We chopped everything up, threw it in the crock pot and dumped bbq sauce on it for sandwiches. Sometimes we do this and make a pot of chili or taco meat. Its a great way to use up all those left overs. Plus its super easy and super cheap *G*

Another thing I do, Okie, is keep a gallon freezer bag in our freezer. When there is just one piece of chicken or a small part of a pot roast, etc I just throw it in that bag. When it gets full you've got dinner!

Another cheap and easy recipe is for peach cobbler.

Dump like 2 large cans of sliced peaches in a cake pan. Pour 1 dry yellow cake mix on top (just the powder, no other ingredients), sprinkle some cinnamon on top and then pour one melted stick of butter all over. Bake on 350 for about 1 hour. Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. yum.

I'm gonna try that freezer bag trick and Kim, that Peach Cobbler Recipe sounds really good. I'm gonna try it tonight..cobbler and a cup of coffee for desert on a cold night sounds heavenly!

Let me know if you like it, Okie. Personally, I think using cherry pie filling and chocolate cake mix would be good too but I can't convince Gil to eat cherries.

Hey, Kim..we loved it! and it was so easy to make. You are right about the cherries, I could never get Clint to eat them either, but I bet a blueberry filling with a yellow or white cake mix would taste yummy. I'm gonna try it this weekend and see how that combination tastes. I'll let you know.

Yay! Glad you liked it.

Ohh, blueberry would be really good too. The possibilities are endless, aren't they?
